After Noor Jehan, elephant Madhubala diagnosed with blood parasite

After Noor Jehan, the elephant Madhubala has been diagnosed with a blood parasite at Karachi Zoo.

The medical reports released on Thursday indicated that the sample from Madhubala still tested positive for Trypanosomes, although in very low numbers.

Additionally, piroplasmas were found in the red blood cells, it said.

The report suggested that two additional doses of Diminazine can be administered at an interval of approximately two weeks to effectively address the issue of Trypanosomes.

Immediate measures have been taken to initiate the treatment process for the ailing elephant.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"

However, the ailing elephant’s life is out of danger.

Noor Jehan, the elephant in Karachi Zoo who passed away in April, revealed that she died from a blood parasite disease.

The report which was obtained by Aaj News read that Noor Jehan was also suffering from hematoma and other diseases.

“Blood parasites are caused by the bite of a particular type of fly,” the report added.

Noor Jahan suffered leg pain in January 2023, said. Dr Saif ur Rehman, Administrator Karachi. Her health worsened in March and Noor Jehan eventually passed away on April 22 on the day of Eid.

The administration has started the measures to save animals, Karachi Zoo Director Kunwar Ayub told Aaj News.

“Mosquito repellent has been sprayed in the entire zoo. The Four Paws team has also come for inspection,” he said.

Ayub claimed that reports about lion’s ill health were “just rumours”. Lion is not unwell, he said, adding that the report mentioned has not been compiled yet.
