PCB makes last ditch effort to save Asia Cup

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee chairman Najam Sethi has made the last-ditch effort to save the Asia Cup by sending a new proposal.

Earlier, both the Sri Lanka Cricket and the Bangladesh Cricket Board reportedly opposed the hybrid model proposed by the PCB.

Both the PCB and the Asian Cricket Council met in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday where Sethi tabled a final proposal to save the 50-over tournament from cancelation.

In the proposal, PCB wants to host the tournament in two phases – first phase: all teams except India will have to play at least one match in Pakistan. In the second phase: the remaining part of the tournament is to be played in UAE with India participating there.

In case of a rejection, Pakistan would not participate in the tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to be played in Pakistan in September. However, India refuse to travel to the neighbouring country since the ACC awarded the hosting rights.

There were reports that Sri Lanka emerged as favourite venue to host the tournament, however, no official word is available on that front.
