Public Accounts Committee could issue warrants for SC registrar

National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee has decided to conduct an audit of the Supreme Court’s expenditures from 2010 to 2021 and has summoned the registrar to provide details.

In a meeting of the committee on Wednesday, Chairman Noor Alam Khan said that if the registrar did not answer the summons, warrants would be issued.

When asked by a committee member what would happen if the registrar obtained a stay order from the courts, Khan said he would issue warrants again.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"

The committee has also instructed the auditor general to present a comparison of the salaries of the prime minister, the president and judges of the Supreme Court. The committee has also asked for record of the £190 million sent to Pakistan by UK’s National Crime Agency.

Addressing the assembly after the committee meeting, Noor Alam said that the parliament is not against any member of the judiciary, but questions will be asked if the constitution is violated. He added that the committee is well within its powers to summon anyone.

He also said that an audit of the Supreme Court’s funds had not been conducted for the last 10 years and details about the Dam Fund have also been requested.
