The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted interim bail to PTI Chairman Imran Khan till May 3 in inciting mutiny case, Aaj News reported Friday.

IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq heard the petition seeking interim bail for the PTI chairman in the case. Barrister Salman Safdar and Faisal Chaudhry appeared before the court on behalf of the former Prime Minister.

The Khan’s legal team argued that there are serious security threats to their client, due to which there can be an assassination attempt again, the court should grant interim bail instead of the trial court itself.

Faisal Chaudhry argued the court should also dismiss the objections filed by the Registrar’s Office on Imran Khan’s petition.

After hearing the arguments, the court granted an interim to the PTI chairman till May 3 against the submission of surety bonds worth Rs100,000.

Earlier, Imran Khan’s car was stopped at the entrance of the court. Later he was granted permission after PTI’s legal team filed an application in the Registrar’s Office.

The application stated that their client is a former prime minister and his life is under threat.

The Islamabad police had issued a traffic plan amid Imran Khan’s appearance at the IHC.

The police spokesperson stated that the Islamabad Police will be taking necessary security measures during Imran Khan’s appearance in court. It is hoped that Imran Khan and his colleagues will abide by the law during the proceedings.

On April 6, Manzoor Ahmed Khan, a magistrate, filed a first information report (FIR) at the city’s Ramna police station against Imran for “spreading hatred between the institutions and the public” and for “trying to cause unforgivable damage to the institutions and their top officers”.

Khan has been accused of multiple offenses in an FIR filed against him under sections 138, 500, and 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
