The notice had been published in multiple national newspapers and had said that the construction of the house would cose Rs100 million. However, it was withdrawn after the government said that funds for the project were not available.

The notice had attracted plenty on criticism from social media as well, mostly from the point of view of a large amount of money being doled out while the government continues to say that it is facing a crunch.

The construction of the residence is part of the Public Sector Development Programme.

“The project has been put off until the financial situation of the country improves,” a statement from the CDA said.

The Election Commission of Pakistan also issued a statement to clarify that the construction of an official residence was a ‘routine’ matter. The ECP statement added that theproject had been in progress for three years and normal procedures had been followed in issuing the invitation bid.

“Even if the project begins, it will not be completed during the curren CEC’s tenure,” the statement said.
