Tit for tat: Pakistan likely to play World Cup matches at neutral venue

As expected Pakistan are set to play its upcoming World Cup matches in Bangladesh, ESPNCricinfo reported Wednesday.

The decision from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) comes after the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) decided against trevelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.

The upcoming ICC World Cup is scheduled to be played in India in October-November, while Pakistan is set to host Asia Cup in September.

Talks have begun between both boards regarding a neutral venue for Pakistan matches and Bangladesh is favourite to host the Men in Green, ESPNCricinfo reported.

The aforementioned development was made on the sidelines of the board meetings in Dubai.

“It has only been mentioned as an option and no formal discussions have taken place on the matter, but the PCB has been keen to point out that India not playing in Pakistan in an Asia Cup has a potential impact on the ICC’s Champions Trophy, due to be held in Pakistan in February 2025,” the cricket website reported.

For the Asia Cup, UAE, Oman, Sri Lanka and England are under consideration to host India matches during Asia Cup 2023.
