PM says no party could run from elections ‘due’ by September

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that no party could run from elections that are ‘due’ to be held by September.

He made these comments while addressing a delegation of the Council of Pakistan News Paper Editors (CPNE).

Shehbaz said that elections in the country are a constitutional requirement that will be held on time, and the federal government is performing its duties well.

“The National Assembly elections are to be held in August-September, no party including PML-N can run away from elections,” the PM said.

“We put our politics at stake to save the state.”

He went on the criticise Imran Khan’s government by saying that Khan’s government made false cases against Nawaz Sharif after he was removed as the prime minister on Iqama (Residence Permit).

The PM went on to add that census has started in the country, for which funds have been provided. “Some parties had reservations about the census conducted in the past.”

Commenting on the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, he said that many friends had the impression that he would fail to run this 11 to 13-party collation government, whose tenure is about 11 months. “It is not on my credit to run this all alone but everyone played a crucial role and they are still playing to date to make this historic collation a success.”
