This Karachi boy has the Biryani Blues

A young man named Abid Ali uses pots and utensils for more than just cooking and eating. He uses them as musical instruments.

Abid Ali is a drummer and works as a music facilitator at TDF Magnifi-Science, a science museum in Karachi.

TDF Magnifi¬Science Centre is Pakistan’s first interactive science center designed to provide hands-on learning to people of all ages.

Abid said that children want to make music but musical instruments aren’t affordable for everyone. “Every utensil makes a different sound,” he said. “We teach kids how to create music without any musical instruments using household utensils.”

Abid has been fond of music since childhood. His father is also a drummer. “My father and YouTube taught me how to play the drums,” he said. “I started making music using household utensils when I was a child.” He uses jars filled with uncooked rice and lentils as shakers.

He said that museumgoers enjoy making music from pans and utensils. “You don’t even need drumsticks, you can use spoons and easily make music at home,” Abid said.
