“Despite the lapse of one year, the Government of India has not acceded to Pakistan’s demand of a joint probein order to accurately establish the facts surrounding this serious incident,” a MOFA statement said.

Calling the incident ‘irresponsible’, the statement also questioned why India has not shared the results of its internal inquiry with Pakistan.

“Its unilateral and hasty closure of the so-called internal inquiry have raised serious questions on the command and control systems in place in India for its strategic weapons.”

The statement demanded that Pakistan be given assurances that enough security protocols are in place to prevent any such accidents in a nuclearised environment.

On March 9 last year, India had ‘accidentally’ fired a supersonic BrahMos missile into Pakistan. The missile had landed near Mian Channu, authorities had said that it had endangered passenger flights.

India had later said that the ‘regrettable’ incident had occurred because of a technical malfunction. Indian authorities also said that three air force officers had been fired over the incident.

The MOFA statement also said that the exemplary restraint shown by Pakistani officials was an indication of its commitment to peace.
