Najam Sethi has found himself in hot water after tweeting that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan will only target state security establishment and that Pakistan Super League (PSL) did not face a terror threat.

The tweet from the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman came after the outlawed Pakistani Taliban, or TTP threatened more attacks against law enforcement officers. It suicide attacker targeted a police headquarters in Karachi on Friday.

In the tweet, Sethi wrote: “The TTP have said they will only target State Security Establishment because various deals have broken down. There is no threat to PSL. It will go on.”

Sethi quickly deleted the tweet but a screenshot of the tweet had already been taken by some users including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shireen Mazari.

Mazaari wondered aloud if the tweet was seen by the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The ISPR is the media wing of the Pakistan military.

After the attack on the Karachi police chief’s office on Friday evening, doubts were raised on the future of the Pakistan Super League season eight matches scheduled in the metropolis.

An emergency meeting was called, which was also attended by the representatives of all six franchises, over the issue.

According to Geo News, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in consultation with security agencies and the provincial government, took franchises in confidence and agreed to continue the tournament as per schedule in Karachi.

Here are some other reactions to Sethi’s tweet:

A user wrote that the board should stop tweeting everything from personal accounts.
