Sethi confirms T20I series between Pakistan, Afghanistan

Pakistan will face Afghanistan in the T20I series, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Najam Sethi confirmed on Sunday afternoon.

Both neighbouring countries will play three T20Is in March, Sathi announced in a tweet.

The move came after Cricket Australia withdrew from the ODI series against Afghanistan after the Taliban increased sanctions on women.

“Pleased to announce PCB will play three T20Is against Afghanistan in Sharjah at the end of March to compensate Afghanistan following Australia’s pullout from bilateral series against it,” he tweeted.

As announced, both Pakistan and Afghanistan will share revenue equally from the series.

Earlier, the PCB chairman had met with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) counterpart and other board executives in Dubai, to discuss the possible series between the two Asian giants.

He said that the PCB was not in favour of playing a purposeless series.

“See, Pakistan are already through, and even a 3-0 defeat will not affect us in qualifying for the ICC Cricket World Cup,” he had said.

“The moral is we manage to convince them to share the 50 percent revenue from the series…and Afghanistan are very happy with the development.”

He had vowed to warp up the deal as soon as possible after the Pakistan government’s approval.
