You would prefer seeing the country go down, Dar tells Imran

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said Imran Khan would ‘prefer’ see the country go down if he does not get back into power again.

The finance minister made the remarks in a tweet, responding to Imran Khan’s statement calling Shehbaz Sharif ‘shameless’ despite ‘destroying the economy.’

He said Imran Khan had made an irresponsible tweet aimed at damaging the country’s economic situation.

“Everyone knows, he is a selfish, narcissist, megalomaniac who since his constitutional removal from PM-office has gone berserk,” Dar wrote.

He wrote that Imran’s destruction of the economy had taken Pakistan from the 24th largest economy to the 47th.

He also said that PM Shehbaz Sharif had invited Imran Khan for a national dialogue to discuss issues facing the country, but Imran Khan’s response showed that he did not want to engage.

He was referring to the PM’s proposed multi-party conference for which invites have also been extended to Imran Khan and his party.

However, PTI’s attendance seems unlikely as they also shunned the Provincial Apex Committee meeting called on Friday to discuss the response to terrorism after the mosque attack in Peshawar.

The PTI chairman had accused the Shehbaz-led PDM government of allowing terrorism to spread under its watch.

The finance minister has been fighting a difficult battle, trying to bolster fast-depleting forex reserves by securing a bailout tranche from the IMF. The PM has described the Fund’s conditions as ‘harsh’.
