Asian Cricket Council responds to Najam Sethi’s claims

The Asian Cricket Council on Friday refuted Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi’s claims that Jay Shah-led body announced the cricket calendar 2023-24 without consulting the stakeholders in Pakistan.

The newly appointed chief made these claims on social media urging the Board for Control of Cricket (BCCI) secretary to also announce the schedule of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) – Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament.

In a statement, the ACC called Sethi’s claims baseless and revealed that the PCB didn’t respond to the body’s email in December.

“It has come to our knowledge that PCB chairman Najam Sethi has made a comment on the ACC President unilaterally taking the decision on finalising the calendar and announcing the same,” the statement reads.

“The ACC wants to clarify that it has followed established due process. The calendar was approved by its Development Committee and Finance & Marketing Committee in a meeting held on December 13th, 2022.”

Moreover, it was also revealed that the calendar was communicated to all participating members individually including the PCB via email. “While responses were received from certain Member Boards, no comments or suggested modifications were received from PCB.”

“In view of the above, Sethi’s comments on a social media platform are baseless and are vehemently denied by the ACC,” ACC concluded.
