Ben Stokes to donate match fees to Pakistan’s flood-hit families

England Test team’s captain Ben Stokes has announced to donate match fees to the flood-stricken families in Pakistan.

The England team arrived in Pakistan in the wee hours of Sunday for the three-match Test series.

Stokes, who is the centre of attention since touching down in Islamabad, made the announcement on Twitter stating that he will be donating the match fees from the Test series to the Pakistan flood appeal.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif lauded Stokes’ gesture of donating match fee for flood aid.

Earlier, England white-ball captain Jos Buttler also pledged to donate to the flood victims in the country.

Buttler, while speaking to local media after touching down in Karachi earlier this year, said that the team’s thoughts are with the flood victims in Pakistan.

“Pakistan suffered floods and we can feel their pain,” Buttler said. “We are happy to be here for cricket in this tough time. As a team, we will make donations which will be matched by the ECB to make a little effort from our side.”

Pakistan has been battered by back-to-back climate catastrophes in recent years - floods, heatwaves, and forest fires - and is struggling to find the funding it needs to recover from unprecedented flooding that started in June, inundating a third of the country.

The recent floods in Pakistan had affected 33 million people, many lost their homes, jobs, and businesses, the large number of cattle and crops are devastated, and tens of thousands of people are still homeless.
