ISPR refutes claims regarding army chief Gen Bajwa and his family’s assets

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) refuted on Sunday the claims being made on social media regarding army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and his family’s assets.

“Misleading figures regarding the assets of Army Chief & his family shared on social media are hugely exaggerated,” the military’s media wing said in a statement and added that the misleading figures were based on assumptions.

“It is totally untrue, based on blatant lies and malice.”

The ISPR said that the false impression was given that the assets were made by General Bajwa and his family during the army chief’s 6-year tenure.

“A certain group has very cleverly and dishonestly attributed the assets of General Bajwa’s daughter-in-law’s father to the army chief and his family,” the military’s media wing added.

The ISPR said that all the assets of the army chief and his family have been declared to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and they regularly file tax returns.

“Like every citizen, the army chief and his family are accountable to the tax authorities for their assets,” the military’s media wing said.

Earlier a US-based website, Fact Focus, claimed that army chief General Bajwa’s assets have increased to 12.7 billion in the last six years.

The website said that these assets belonged not only to General Bajwa but to his wife, children, daughter-in-law, and son’s father-in-law Sabir Hameed.

After the publication of this news, Fact Focus also claimed that its website was rendered inaccessible in Pakistan, while many users said that the website was still accessible.

One of the main figures of Fact Focus is Ahmed Noorani, who was one of the leading reporters in Pakistan but has been living in America for some time.
