Two missing persons returned home, police tell court

KARACHI: The police told the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday that two out of the six missing persons have returned home, as the court disposed of the petitions pertaining to their recoveries.

Noorullah from the city’s Ittehad Town area and Atif from New Karachi have returned home, the police said.

A two-member bench of the SHC led by Justice Karim Khan Agha gave orders for the recovery of Jamshed Ahmed, Barkat Ali, Yasir, and Zeeshan. The court adjourned the hearing of the case for six weeks.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the missing persons issue was a “disgrace” for Pakistan during his visit to Karachi on September 20.

He further described those involved in “enforced disappearances” of political workers, human rights activists, and other individuals as violators of the Constitution.

Sanaullah, in a press conference alongside the MQM-P leader, had claimed that he has taken up the matter in line with the premier’s directives.

“It’s more painful than death,” he had said.

To a query, he said: “There’s no denying and we all know how much writ successive governments have had and [the current one] still has in this regard and what are its other aspects.”

He also made a tweet on the matter.

“It’s a matter of embarrassment for the state that instead of bringing people under the law, they are disappeared and then their bodies are found. Everyone knows the extent of the governments’ writ in this regard. I assure you that we are trying to solve the problem through reconciliation rather than confrontation.”
