The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sought account details of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

According to details, the commission has sought the details of the PTI chief’s bank account in a case pertaining to Toshakhana gifts.

Sources privy to the development told that the election commission has penned down a letter to the SBP seeking account details of the former prime minister.

The ECP would announce the reserved verdict after reviewing the accounts’ details, sources added.

Earlier on August 28, the election commission during the hearing of the Toshakhana reference had declared Imran Khan a member of the National Assembly and directed his counsel to provide the documents.

Toshakhan reference was filed against the PTI chief by PML-N MNA Barrister Mohsin Shah Nawaz Ranjha under Article 63(2) of the Constitution.

The reference stated that Imran Khan despite buying the gifts from Toshakhan had not declared the gifts in his asset declaration statement. “He [Imran Khan], therefore, is dishonest and should be disqualified under Article 62-1(f),” the reference stated.

The reference was then sent to the election commission where a five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja heard the reference.

During the hearing, Imran Khan’s counsel argued that the PTI chief was no more an MNA.
To which the CEC replied that the election commission did not receive the resignation of the PTI chief and declared him a member of the National Assembly.

The CEC observed the Assembly Secteriate did not send the resignation and that without the approval of the resignation no member of the National Assembly could be denotified.
