The huddle is also expected to deliberate upon the situation after floods in which more than 1,600 people have been killed since mid-June.

The NSC is the highest national security body in Pakistan and the chiefs of armed forces, as well as the director-general of the ISI, are its members.

PM Shehbaz has called the meeting a day after it was postponed indefinitely. Later, in the day the premier had addressed a press conference, along with some of the cabinet members, which centered around the same issue. But, he also addressed queries pertaining to the appointment of next chief of the army staff.

This comes after audio clips, purportedly recording of the conversations inside the Prime Minister’s House, surfaced on social media. PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry claimed that at least 8GB of data had been made available on the darknet.

The premier has described the audio leak as a “serious matter”, adding that a high-level joint investigation team (JIT) would be formed to investigate it.

“Those who will visit the Prime Minister House will now think a hundred times before saying something,” he warned. He further said it was “serious security lapse”.

PM Shehbaz claimed that party leader Maryam Nawaz didn’t seek favour from him for the import of machinery for her son-in-law.

But, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah told Aaj News on Tuesday that it were not the result of bugging but were the result of hacking.

“The Inter-Services Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau, and the Federal Investigation Authority will be included in the investigation team,” the interior minister said speaking exclusively on programme Spot Light.
