A video surfaced on social media showed a citizen picking trash bags from a garbage bin and throwing them inside a K-electric vehicle patrolling with a technical team.

A KE employee steps out of the vehicle to talk to the citizen who does not pay any heed to him, after which he eventually gives up and drives away the vehicle.

The Sindh government’s decision to impose the KMC tax on consumers’ monthly electricity bills triggered anger among Karachiites. Residents of different areas in the port city are now demanding K-electric pick up their garbage.

K-Electric has started collecting taxes on behalf of the KMC after Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah unveiled the provincial government’s plan to collect two KMC taxes — fire tax and conservancy tax — from the citizens of Karachi through the monthly K-electric bill.

The KE imposed Rs50 tax on consumption of 200 units while Rs70 will be charged on the consumption of units between 200 to 700.

Meanwhile, Administrator KMC Murtaza Wahab said that this was not a new tax and it was being collected since 2009.
