“Asad Rauf suffered a heart attack while returning home from his shop last night. It proved to be fatal,” his brother Tariq Rauf said.

The time and location of his funeral prayer will be announced later.

Asad Rauf was a leading umpire who started of as a first class cricketer in the 1980s.

He started his umpiring career in 2000. In 2006, he was promoted to the Elite Panel of ICC. In the next 7 years, he became one of the most prominent umpires in Pakistan until his involvement in a match-fixing controversy while officiating in the Indian Premier League, which led to a five-year ban by the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI).

He stood in a a total of 231 international matches over a period of 13 years.

The former umpire spent his last days selling clothes at a flea market.
