The meeting has been summoned by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PTV News reported.

Aaj News reported while citing sources on Sunday that the multi-party meeting would be held today on the flood situation. The ruling coalition has invited all parties except PTI for the meeting.

Punjab braces for more as KP flood enters province

The PDMA and district administration directed more than 100,000 population living in the Rajanpur belt to shift to safe locations (which for now are highways) as flash floods that battered Khyber Pakhtunkhwa entered Punjab.

The floodwater could cause destruction on a large scale, the authorities overseeing relief efforts said in a statement. Kot Mithan, a village on the Rajanpur belt, is a point where all four rivers and the Sindh river converge resulting in a high flow of water.

It would take 48 hours for the flood to leave the area, said the statement. Floodwater would reach the Rajanpur belt from Dera Ghazi Khan followed by Darya Khan and Mianwali.

The Indus Highway was damaged in two places, according to updates by 10am.

A team of the food authority had destroyed unsafe foods, which was being provided to flood victims by private contractors in relief camps.

PM Shehbaz will visit Nowshera, Charsadda today

Prime Minister Shehbaz would visit flood affected districts of Nowshera and Charsadda today (Monday) to review the relief efforts, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said in a tweet. This would be the premier’s third visit to such areas after similar trips to Sindh and Balochistan.

The prime minister will be briefed by the relevant authorities on the damages and relief operations in the area, said the Prime Minister’s Office.

He would also visit the site of Mohmand Dam where he will be briefed about the project.

PM Shehbaz has so far announced grants worth Rs15 billion and Rs10 billion for Sindh and Balochistan respectively. The amount was pledged from the federal government’s share and it’s up to provinces how they use it.

Education institutions in Balochistan shut for five more days

Educational institutions in Balochistan would be closed for five more days in the wake of floods triggered by heavy rains, the government announced in a notification.

“All the government and private institutions will remain closed from August 29 to September 5,” Naseebullah Marri, the provincial education minister, said. The decision was taken in view of the flood situation as floodwaters entered schools while several victims were given refuge in many schools and colleges.
