ISLAMABAD: The district and sessions court in Islamabad granted police on Monday two-day physical remand of police Shehbaz Gill, chief of staff of former PM Imran Khan. It asked the police to produce Gill before the court n August 24.

PTI leader Shahbaz Gill was discharged from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad, sources in the hospital told Aaj News. But, they added the PTI leader was again complaining about chest pain.

Gill, who is chief of staff of party chief Imran Khan, was shifted to Pims on August 19 after the district and sessions court in Islamabad ordered the police. The court had rejected police’s plea for completion of physical remand and ordered that Gill’s medical check-up must again be conducted.

Earlier, the court had ordered to present PTI leader Shahbaz Gill must be presented in front of the court by 12:30pm. Judicial magistrate Malik Aman remarked that the court would inform the special prosecutor if he arrives in the case pertaining to sedition and inciting the public against institutions.

The Islamabad police brought Gill in an ambulance to the court during the last hearing of the case. Crying and coughing Gill reached the courtroom in a wheelchair, he claimed that his mask was taken away.

The interior ministry claimed on Sunday that Gill suffered no torture in police custody, adding that no such evidence was found in the inquiry.

“Torture is a clear-cut violation of the dignity of a man,” he said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad. “We condemn any kind of torture. The Punjab government is responsible if Shahbaz suffered torture in jail.”

He had rejected the PTI’s claims of torture and described Gill’s apparent condition as a “drama”. PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry in reaction to Sanaullah’s presser said that the coalition government should conduct an investigation if his party leader was “fit”.
