KARACHI: Many parts of Karachi were soaked on Tuesday morning as the fresh monsoon spell continued for the third day. Sindh’s metropolitan capital may receive up to 39mm rainfall today, the Met Office said in its weather update.

“Latest radar observations show more well-spread rain bands across almost the whole of Karachi city, means heavy downpour to continue further,” Sardar Sarfaraz, the chief meteorologist at Pakistan Meteorological Department Karachi, said in a tweet on Monday.

This amount of rain is double what Lahore and Islamabad have seen over the same July period.

Around 150 feet section of the Hub river bridge has been destroyed and washed away after its pillars got weak due to the flash floods. The bridge was closed for heavy traffic a few days ago.

The electricity supply to the Lasbela district got disrupted after the main transmission line was swept away in floods, bringing the production work at around three hundred industries to a halt.

The construction of a new pole would be started when the floods would end, sources at the K-Electric said. It added that it may take one to two weeks to restore the power supply in the area.
