Imran calls for peaceful protests after Hamza retains Punjab CM post

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan said he was surprised at what had happened in the Punjab Assembly and urged people to hold peaceful protests against the victory of Hamza Shehbaz.

“It is written in Article 63A that the parliamentary leader of the party decides where to vote, the letter I wrote was rejected, then the parliamentary leader wrote the letter,” the PTI chairperson said while addressing the public in Lahore on Friday.

Imran claimed he had prior information that PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari would run a campaign with money, adding that the people would throw eggs on him if Zardari came out in public.

“What happened in Punjab today is not democracy,” the ousted prime minister said, adding that people should protest but should not take the law into their hands and must remain peaceful.

The PTI chief said democracy had meritocracy and transparency but its foundation was based on “morality”. “Democracy does not have an army. Parliament does not have an army but the Parliament has one thing which is morality,” he added.

Imran said Britain’s democracy works because its prime minister is likely to resign over something that does not even make news in Pakistan.

“Lawmakers were put up for auction in Sindh House and all this horse-trading is happening with Sindh’s public money,” he added.
