Pakistan and India swapped lists of prisoners in each other’s custody on Friday as part of the agreement between both countries.

“Today, the Government of Pakistan shared with the Indian High Commission in Islamabad a list of 682 Indian prisoners detained in Pakistan including 49 civilians and 633 fishermen,” said the statement issued by the Foreign Office.

This step was consistent with clause (i) of the Consular Access Agreement between Pakistan and India, signed on May 21, 2008, under which both countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody on January 01 and July 01 every year.

The Indian government also simultaneously shared a list of 461 Pakistani prisoners in India, including 345 civilians and 116 fishermen, with the High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi.

Earlier on January 1, both the countries had also exchanged a similar list as well as information pertaining to nuclear sites.

Last year in July, Pakistan shared with the Indian High Commission in Islamabad a list of 609 Indian prisoners that including 51 civilians and 558 fishermen. India simultaneously shared the list of 345 Pakistani prisoners in India that include 271 civilians and 74 fishermen with the High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi.
