Trivia, weight and power: PM Shehbaz’s speech at Gwadar

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s speech at the Gwadar Business Centre was a roller coaster of fun trivia and not-so-fun fat shaming.

Iran has recently pledged electricity for Balochistan, a process that was supposed to take six months. Shehbaz asked Federal Minister for Power Khurram Dastgir Khan to speed up work on the project and wrap it up in three months.

He also asked Dastgir to present a report on the same in three weeks, instead of the original one month.

“You should visit Gwader often [for the project], you will also become smart,” the PM said, blatantly fat-shaming the minister.

He then went on to ask attendees what province did they think was allotted the largest budget this year. The audience assuming it is a rhetorical question did not answer, only to be prompted by Shehbaz. “You are all smart people, I am sure you can come up with the answer.”

Some voices piped up in unison, “Balochistan!”

“Well done,” said Shehbaz, while he also clapped for the audience.

What did you think of our PM’s comments?
