LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has suspended a sessions court verdict to register a case against Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, the Lahore police chief and the deputy inspector general (DIG) operations for inflicting violence on lawyers during PTI’s long march to Islamabad.

Justice Sardar Faraz Dogar heard the case on Thursday on a petition filed by Constable Muhammad Aslam. The policeman had approached the LHC against the verdict of the district and sessions court.

The petition contended that the sessions court’s verdict was not consistent with what transpired as the police force was performing its duty during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s long march.

It stated that peaceful protesters were not harmed during the rally and those activists who had been arrested during the demonstration were released on the orders of the top court. However, action was taken against demonstrators who resorted to violence, the petition added.

After hearing the arguments, the LHC suspended the sessions court verdict and issued notices to the respondents.

Multiple cases were registered against PTI leaders for violence on police officials, including snatching anti-riot material from the officers and damaging public property in Lahore during the long march.
