Nasreen Jalil to be third woman governor in Pakistan’s history

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has forwarded a summary to the president to appoint MQM-P’s senior leader Nasreen Jalil as Sindh governor.

She was a member of Senate from 2010 to 2018.

Jalil will be the third woman governor in the history of Pakistan as no other province, except for Gilgit Baltistan, has ever appointed a woman as governor. Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan was the first woman governor of Pakistan who had served as Sindh governor from 1973-1976.

Shama Khalid was the second woman who served as GB governor in 2010. She died of cancer after serving at least five months on the post.

Sindh governor’s slot became vacant after Imran Ismail, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader, resigned from the post after PM Shehbaz took oath as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan.
