PTI implores court to intervene after FIA seizes digital equipment

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Thursday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court against the alleged harassment of their party’s social media team.

PTI’s Ali Nawaz Awan filed the petition in the high court, making the interior secretary, Islamabad inspector general, Punjab inspector general, Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) DG and FIA cyber wing DG respondents in the case.

The petition stated that agencies illegally raided the houses of those in PTI's social media team to harass them and their families.

The petition further maintained that police and FIA registered multiple first information reports against PTI social media activists with the consent of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

On April 10, the houses of members of PTI's digital media team were reportedly raided and digital equipment, including their laptops and phones, was seized. The home of Dr Arslan Khalid, recently ousted prime minister Imran Khan's focal person on digital media, was also allegedly raided in Lahore by 11 unidentified men and he was allegedly picked up for a few hours.

The FIA has arrested at least 11 people for running alleged propaganda campaigns against "sensitive agencies" on social media platforms. But no PTI worker was included in the accused.

They were allegedly running various fake Twitter handles. It was also reported that their laptops and phones were confiscated.
