PM Imran addresses Shaukat Khanum fundraiser as NA meets for no-trust vote

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday addressed a fundraiser of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital while staying away from the National Assembly session that is underway in which voting on the no-confidence motion against him is expected to take place.

PM Imran, whose absence from the NA session was highlighted by several opposition leaders, spoke at length about the impact of cancer on not just those suffering from it but on the entire household, while addressing those attending the ceremony in the capital.

"Cancer is the second biggest killer after heart-related diseases," he said.

He went on to state that cancer is a disease that requires longer treatment. "Cancer patients have to get routine check ups for up to five years," he said, adding that this was the reason that compelled him to set up the cancer hospital.

He said that one of the reasons for setting up the hospital was also to allow early diagnosis. "Now, cancer is no longer a death sentence."

PM Imran said that the Shaukat Khanum hospital being set up in Karachi would have twice the capacity of the one in Lahore "as it will cater to the whole of Sindh".

He also lauded the people of Pakistan for their generosity, stating that they have contributed wholeheartedly not just to help him construct the hospital but also to run it.
