Lt-General (retd) Tariq Khan refuses to head commission on ‘foreign conspiracy’

Lieutenant General (retd) Tariq Khan on Friday refused to head a commission formed by the PTI government to probe the alleged 'foreign conspiracy' behind the no-confidence resolution filed against Prime Minister Imran Khan by the opposition.

“The government of Pakistan has suggested my name for the investigation of the lettergate. I apologise to the head of the Lettergate Commission of Inquiry,” he tweeted.

Earlier in the during a press a conference after the meeting of the Cabinet Minister for Information and Law Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said that the government's commission headed by Lieutenant General (retd) Tariq Khan will investigate the "threat letter".

He said that the commission will investigate where the conspiracy was hatched and who were the local handlers of the conspiracy to topple Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

“We have evidence of eight dissident MPAs being in contact with foreign dignitaries,” Fawad said, adding: “The commission will look at a connection between local handlers and regime change.”

The commission was formed after the Supreme Court ruled that Prime Minister Imran Khan's move to dissolve parliament was unconstitutional and ordered lawmakers to return.

He termed the no-confidence motion a 'foreign conspiracy', saying that a selected government would be imposed after the success of no-confidence motion against the premier.

The minister further said that the commission, headed by Lt General (rtd) Tariq Khan, would show that the communique does exist.
