PM Imran's decision to dissolve Assembly 'unconstitutional', says Fazl

Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the prime minister cannot dissolve the Assembly after the no-confidence motion is submitted against him.

Fazl in a video statement on Sunday said that today the agenda of the National Assembly has been ignored and the whole country has been pushed towards political crisis.

He said that Asad Qaiser was mentioned in the deputy speaker National Assembly's ruling, adding that the no-confidence motion was against Asad Qaiser. He further said that it was unconstitutional to give ruling by referring to Qaisar.

The PDM chief said that Imran Khan's decision to dissolve the assembly was unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) member Kamran Murtaza said that a petition to challenge the deputy speaker’s ruling in the Supreme Court is being drafted.

“It will be filed as per the decision of the Opposition leadership,” said Murtaza.

Earlier in the day, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, who was chairing today’s session, dismissed the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan-led government, terming it a contradiction of Article 5 of the Constitution.

“I have written to the President to dissolve the Assemblies. There should be elections in a democratic way. I call upon the people of Pakistan to prepare for elections,” Khan said in an address to the nation.

Earlier, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Sadiq Sanjrani adjourned the Sunday sitting of the House, alleging “foreign conspiracy” against the government while stating that the no-trust motion was unconstitutional.

Violation of constitution

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has termed the premier's advice to President Alvi to dissolve National Assembly as a violation of the Constitution saying that that everyone witnessed the violation of the Constitution.

“He [deputy speaker] has done unconstitutional thing at the last moment. He broke the Constitution of Pakistan. The no-trust vote had to take place today as per the Constitution.”
