Around 75 per cent of the country’s eligible population stand vaccinated against the coronavirus, a five per cent increase more than a week after the government rolled back the pandemic restrictions in view of the weakening impact of the virus.

The development was shared by Special Assistant to the PM on Health Faisal Sultan in a tweet on Saturday. “Covid vaccine update. 75% of our eligible population (age 12 years and over) is now fully vaccinated,” it read.

Addressing a press conference, National Command and Operation Centre head Asad Umar on March 16 said: “87% of the eligible population, which is above the 12 years of age, has received the first dose of the Covid vaccine. And 70% of the population is fully vaccinated against the virus.”

Moreover, the NCOC on Sunday completed its second anniversary and shared the Covid statistics.

“Statistics 27 Mar 22: total tests in last 24 hours: 31,962; positive cases: 310; positivity %: 0.96%; deaths: 5; patients on critical care: 428,” it said in a tweet.

The NCOC, which serves as the nerve centre of the country’s unified efforts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, also shared the countrywide Covid tally. Sindh topped the list with the highest number of cases 574,730, followed by Punjab (504,841), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (218,898), Islamabad (135,023), Balochistan (35,469), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (43,244), and Gilgit Baltistan (11,695).

Moreover, the total active cases also stayed below 10,000.
