Pakistan strongly condemns Indian violation of airspace: DG ISPR

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar said that Pakistan strongly condemned Indian violation of Pakistani airspace.

Addressing a press conference hours after an object crashed in Mian Channu, Khanewal district, on Wednesday night, the DG ISPR said that the projectile that entered the Pakistani airspace was a supersonic missile that originated from India and fell near Mian Channu, causing some damage to the surrounding areas.

"On March 9, at 6:43 pm, a high-speed flying object was picked up inside the Indian territory by Air Defence Operations Centre of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF),” the DG ISPR said.

The DG ISPR said that Pakistan Air Force was continuously monitoring that complete flying path of the object, from its point of origin to its point of impact.

He said that the projectile travelled 124kms inside Pakistan from India.

"We detected the object on time and took necessary action as per the standard operating procedures (SOPs)," he said, adding that no casualties took place because of the incident.

"There was no sensitive installation in Mian Channu where the projectile fell," the DG ISPR said.

In response to a question, he said "testing and trial of such weapon systems do take place". "But what this was, India has to explain."

Explaining the incident, Vice-Marshall Tariq Zia said that at the time this projectile was picked up, there were two airway routes active and several commercial airlines in the area.

Speaking about an uptick of terrorism incidents in the country, the DG ISPR said that the country’s armed forces are taking prompt actions to thwart the nefarious designs of the enemy.

“So far, we have killed 80 terrorists during the past few weeks,” he said.

Replying to a question, DG ISPR said that Pakistan Army has nothing to do with the politics and asked the journalists to focus only on the March 9 issue in his press conference.
