Hit or miss: Twitter divided over PM Imran's mockery of Bilawal’s Urdu

Social media users are not happy with Prime Minister Imran Khan after he took a dig at PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari over his accent and usage of Urdu while addressing a public event at the Sindh Governor's House in Karachi on Wednesday. For some, PM Imran's behaviour “while occupying the highest office of the country is a disgrace,” while others laughed-out-loud at the mockery.

“Asif Zardari, for God's sake, teach Bilawal how to speak Urdu properly first!” said the premier. A video of the rally was shared by the official Twitter account of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The PM ridiculed Biawal a day after a video of a hilarious slip of tongue by Bilawal went viral on social media.

Speaking on Tuesday night at a rally of the PPP's long march to Islamabad , Bilawal wanted to let his people know that the opposition was trembling by his presence in the capital.

“Islamabad mai kaanpein tang rahi hain,” he said instead of “taangain kaanp rahi hain” which means the legs are shaking.

While social media users went to town on Bilawal with hilarious memes and reactions, they didn’t think it was a good idea for the PM to join them in the trolling.

“Being a PM it doesn’t really suit him to be making speeches like this,” said one user.

“He still thinks that he’s giving speeches from a container,” said another user.

Some people thought the PM made fun of Bilawal as he can’t compete politically with him anymore.

One user shared an old video of the premier struggling to pronounce an Urdu word.

Another person posted a video of the Prime Minister’s oath taking ceremony.

While some people weren’t happy with the mockery, others just enjoyed the hilarious political moment and laughed-out-loud.

Last month in February while addressing the launch ceremony of the Sehat Sahulat Card, the premier had ridiculed Bilawal without mentioning his name.

"It has been 13 years and you (Bilawal) still cannot speak in Urdu,” he had said repeating Bilawal's infamous dialogue "barish ata hay tou paani ata hay” (more water accumulates when it rains more).
