We are govt allies but our options are open: MQM-P leader Amir Khan

In a cryptic press conference after Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leadership's meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan, party leader Amir Khan said that the all-important no-confidence motion against the premier was never discussed during the meeting.

PM Imran Khan visited the temporary headquarters of the MQM-P at Bahadurabad earlier today during his whirlwind visit to Karachi as he tries to shore up support from allies ahead of the united Opposition's no-confidence motion in the National Assembly seeking his ouster.

However, during his press conference, the MQM-P leader shied away from giving a definitive remark about the no-confidence move, stating that while the MQM-P remains a government ally, its options were open.

He did add that he couldn't share the details of the discussion that took place behind closed doors although he categorically stated that the no-trust move never came up for discussion. "The premier was visiting our office for the first time in three and a half years. The meeting was held in a very amicable environment."

When asked about reports that the MQM-P had asked for the un-sealing of its offices and the recovery of missing persons, he asserted that the MQM-P leadership didn't air any grievances nor made any demands.

He did point out that the MQM-P's demands have been known for a while and they have stayed the same.

Upon this, a reporter said that an MQM-P zonal office in Hyderabad that had been sealed in the wake of MQM-P founder Altaf Hussain's incendiary speech in 2016 was unsealed, Amir Khan said he was unaware of any such development.

He also shied away from commenting on the absence of provincial lawmaker Khawaz Izharul Hassan, who reportedly left the office prior to the premier's arrival.

Qureshi's claim

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. who was accompanying the premier along with other party leaders, was reported in the media as stating that the MQM-P leadership has assured the premier of its support in the no-confidence move against the premier.
