Doctor shot dead at Ahmadi-owned clinic in Peshawar

Two unidentified attackers killed a 35-year-old doctor working at a clinic owned by a member of the minority Ahmaddiya community in Peshawar's Bazid Khel village, the unverified account of the religious minority's Twitter account said on Sunday.

According to the tweet, thirty-five-year-old Dr Muhammad Shahid Ahmad used to practice at the clinic owned by a member of the Ahmaddiya community in the village located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The doctor is survived by a widow and three children, it added.

An unidentified assailant, accompanied by another man disguised as a woman clad in burqa, entered the clinic and opened fire on the victim. The doctor was shot in the head and died on the spot, it added. Another member at the clinic, Jawad Ahmed, was shot in the leg.

In the same thread, it was mentioned that neither the slain doctor nor the injured staff member belong to the Ahmaddiya faith.

@PressSectionSAA/ Twitter

In a press statement, also shared on the same account on Sunday, the community said that attacks on members of the minority community and places owned by them were on the rise. "At least five members of the community have been targetted and killed in Peshawar during the last two years," it stated.

The press release also pointed out that the clinic is owned by Dr Mansoor Ahmed, a member of the minority community, who also treat patients sitting in the same chair in which Dr Shahid was sitting when he was shot dead.

Violence against minority communities is not limited to the members of Ahmadiyya in KP. In October last year, a Sikh hakeem, Satnam Singh, was shot dead in Peshawar. Later, Islamic State group claimed responsibility for killing Singh.
