"The Embassy of Pakistan Ukraine has safely evacuated 98 percent Pakistanis from Ukraine. Now only those few (around 30) Pakistanis are left in Ukraine who are stuck in areas of intense fight," read a tweet on the Ukraine embassy's Pakistani account.

It added: "The embassy has approached both Ukraine and Russia for opening up a humanitarian corridor which will enable us to evacuate the remaining Pakistanis."

On Wednesday, the Foreign Office said that as many as 1,227 Pakistanis had been evacuated from Ukraine to neighbouring countries, as the government stepped up efforts to rescue stranded citizens.

In its tweet, the Foreign Office had pointed out that the evacuation efforts were carried out with the coordination of Pakistan's embassies in Ukraine, Poland, Hungary and Romania.

It added that another 84 Pakistanis were either en route or had arrived at the designated destination in order to faciltiate their return to Pakistan.

In a telephonic conversation held between Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi with his counterpart from Poland Zbigniew Rau, he sought the Polish government’s facilitation in evacuation of stranded Pakistani in Ukraine amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
