Pakistan ranked among world's worst places to live during pandemic: report

Pakistan dropped 15 places to last among the 53 countries on Bloomberg's Covid Resilience Ranking due to low level of inoculations, tight restrictions on unvaccinated people and weak healthcare infrastructure.

According to the report, the ranking tracks the best places to live globally during the pandemic, scores places on 11 datapoints from virus containment and death toll to economic growth and reopening.

In the latest edition, Pakistan dropped to last in the ranking and is given an average score of 49.8 out of possible 100.

Hong Kong experienced a similarly steep, dropping to second last after flying as high as 9th a year ago. It is the lowest position ever occupied by a developed economy in the 16 editions of the measure, Bloomberg reported.

Across the region, India was ranked 37th with an average score of 59.6, Bangladesh was ranked 34th while Iran was ranked 32nd with average scores of 60.2 and 60.8 respectively.

Pakistan's number of confirmed Covid cases is lower than the true numbers of infections due to the limited testing.

According to the latest data issued by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) the country is witnessing a hike in daily Covid cases as it logged 1,455 fresh cases.

With the addition of new cases Pakistan total tally reached 1,505,328 including 62,785 active cases.

The positivity rate in the country during the last two days also witnessed a hike as it jumped to 3.9 per cent on Thursday as compared to 2.94 per cent recorded on Wednesday.
