Video of student being assualted sparks protest in Lahore’s GCU

Students from Lahore's Government College University protested against their administration after a video emerged where a fellow student was beaten by the administration allegedly over sitting with a female classmate on campus and refusing to show his identity card.

Twitteratis have also called out the administration after a video, not verified by Aaj News Digital, of the incident went viral on social media.

The incident took place at the amphitheatre of the university. Two people, who are believed to be the proctor and deputy proctor are seen dragging and beating the student in the video.

According to Dawn, a large number of students came together on the college campus to launch a protest. They chanted slogans and called for strict action against the perpetrators.

The demonstrators claimed that they have approached the administration regarding the issue multiple times but no action has been taken.

“The current administration has turned the campus into a jail,” said Salman Sikandar, apparently a alumni from the varsity said in his tweet.

His sentiments were mirrored by others who also believed that the current administration has “started moral policing students.”

According to Dawn, GCU VC Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi said, "the matter is being investigated by a committee and should the proctor and deputy proctor be found guilty, strict measures will be taken against them."

Dr Zaidi also took to Twitter to reassure students that the incident is being looked into.
