Peshawar "Pir" not responsible for nail in wife’s head, claims husband

The husband of the woman who had a nail hammered into her head allegedly by a Pir in Peshawar, said that his wife was mentally ill and that no faith healer is not responsible for the incident.

On Tuesday, a woman was brought to the Lady Reading Hospital with a nail hammered into the top of her forehead allegedly by a fake faith healer in order to guarantee a male offspring.

The nail was surgically removed by Dr. Haider Suleman and his team with the woman’s skull left largely intact. The news went viral on social media, promoting a police investigation.

However, on Thursday, the woman’s husband Ahmed Sabir spoke to the media and denied that the injury was the result of a faith healer.

Sabir said his wife was afflicted with long-term mental health issues and was receiving treatment from a psychiatrist. He also denied wanting a male offspring and revealed he was already a father of six sons from two wives.

According to Dawn.com, the man lambasted news outlets for running the news without first contacting the family. He insisted that the incident has nothing to do with a faith healer or his desire for a son. “You people would not believe this, but she is possessed by spirits,” he said.

Sabir also revealed that his wife has a suicidal history with her jumping off the third storey of his residence with the intention to kill herself.

Speaking to the media, SSP Haroon Rashid said that the police traced the woman’s family during investigation. Regarding the incident, he said that it might be a result of an accident. The woman told investigators that she was removing a wall mounted heater when she lost consciousness, and found a nail in her head upon waking up.

The SSP said that the police is planning a psychiatric evaluation of the woman.
