The development was shared by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in a tweet on Wednesday. It also added that over two million people were given the vaccine dose over the last 24 hours, making it the highest number of vaccines administered in a single day.

“Vaccine statistics: vaccine administered across Pakistan in last 24 hours: 2,067,967. Total vaccine administered till now: 190,001,984,” the NCOC said.

The federal government, on February 1, started the nationwide drive as part of its efforts to get ‘rid of the virus’ and return to normalcy.

“As many as 55,000 mobile teams will take part in this campaign that will be conducted across the country. We have trained them and arranged vaccines for them,” NCOC head Asad Umar had said during a press conference, he was addressing with Special Assistant to the PM on Health Faisal Sultan, in Islamabad.

However, the country witnessed an uptick in the number of Covid patients in the last 24 hours, with 4,253 coronavirus cases.

“Statistics 9 Feb 22: total tests in last 24 hours: 51,749; positive cases: 4,253; positivity %: 8.2%; deaths: 50; patients on critical care: 1,731,” it said in another tweet.

The countrywide tally showed that Sindh had the highest number of infected patients, 554,012 cases, followed by Punjab (491,518), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (205,505), Islamabad (132,161), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (41,068), Balochistan (34,910), and Gilgit Baltistan (34,910).

The NCOC, which serves as the centre of the country’s unified efforts to contain the spread of novel coronavirus, has time and again urged people to get vaccinated and called for those who have either not been vaccinated at all or received their last shot six months ago to opt for the booster vaccine.

“As responsible citizens of Pakistan, we must get vaccinated and wear a mask to protect ourselves and our communities against Covid-19,” SAPM on Health Sultan said in a video message on Tuesday.
