With 48 deaths, Pakistan has reported the highest daily death count over the last 24 hours, according to the statistics shared by the National Command and Operation Centre, as the countrywide door-to-door vaccination campaign enters the fourth day.

“Statistics 4 Feb 22: total Tests in last 24 hours: 64,121; positive cases: 6,377; positivity %: 9.94%; deaths: 48; patients on critical care: 1,618,” read the NCOC tweet on Friday.

As per the Covid graph available on the government website, the country had reported 54 deaths on October 4 last year.

The World Health Organisation and medical experts have stressed the need to follow the SOPs even if people have been inoculated with the anti-Covid jab. Most of the cases are reported to have been caused by Omicron – the new coronavirus variant – which appeared to be less severe but according to the WHO should not be categorised as “mild”.

The NCOC forum, which serves as the centre of the country’s unified efforts to contain the spread of novel coronavirus, on Tuesday announced that the first phase of a “massive” two-week-long door-to-door vaccination campaign countrywide to inoculate more than 35 million people was started as part of the country’s efforts to get “rid of the virus” and return to normalcy.

“As many as 55,000 mobile teams will take part in this campaign that will be conducted across the country. We have trained them and arranged vaccines for them,” NCOC head Asad Umar had said during a press conference in Islamabad.

The countrywide Covid tally showed that Sindh topped the list with a maximum number of cases of 547,920, followed by Punjab (485,810), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (199,195), Islamabad (130,373), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (39,894), Balochistan (34,634), and Gilgit Baltistan (10,837).

The NCOC on Friday also shared the vaccination status. “Vaccine statistics: vaccine administered across Pakistan in last 24 hours: 1,664,560. Total vaccine administered till now: 180,598,815,” it read.
