In a tweet on Tuesday, he said implementation of Provincial Finance Award and empowerment of local government will help abolish centralization of powers created under the 18th Amendment and a true democratic system would become functional.

Earlier today the Supreme Court announced its verdict on a petition filed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) seeking more powers and autonomy for Sindh’s local government institutions.

The apex court in its verdict said it was the constitutional mandate of the Sindh government to empower local government bodies. “The Sindh government is bound to set up empowered local bodies,” it added.

In a bid to make sure the verdict is enforced in its true spirit, the top court directed the Sindh government to strictly ensure compliance of all related laws with Article 140-A of the Constitution.
