Pakistan reported less than 6,000 Covid-19 cases in a day after more than a week, with 5,327 people testing positive for the coronavirus during the last 24 hours, according to National Command and Operation Centre data published on Tuesday.

The country recorded less than 6000 cases on January 25 last, with 5,196 people testing positive.

Meanwhile, the positivity ratio for the viral infection also witnessed a slight decline with 9.65 per cent rate recorded during the last 24 hours across the country.

However, the number of daily deaths rose slightly with at least 32 people succumbing to the virus during the last 24 hours, while numbers on those on critical care reached 1,500.

After a gap of more than six months, the number of fatalities due to the virus crossed 30, with 46 deaths being recorded on June 10, 2021.

Active cases of the virus across the country remained above 100,000 for the fourth consecutive day, according to NCOC data.

On Monday, Peshawar was the worst Covid-19-hit city with a 39.63 per cent positivity rate, followed by Mardan with a positivity rate of 31.08 per cent. Muzaffarabad had a 27.40 per cent positivity rate followed by Karachi with 21.79 per cent.

Previously Karachi reported the highest positivity in the country for a month, before it started spreading fast in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, reported Business Recorder.

The Covid-19 monitoring body, NCOC, has extended non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) in cities and districts with more than 10 per cent positivity rate till February 15.

So far the country has inoculated more than 80 million people against Covid-19 across the country.
