With the rise in Covid-19 cases. the positivity rate also reached 4.70%, according to the National Command and Operation Centre data on Wednesday.

The numbers of death from the pandemic also rose to double digitals after nearly a month as the country recorded 13 fatalities of the virus in the last 24 hours. Last time double digit deaths were recorded was on December 21 with 10 people died of the coronavirus.

During the last 24 hours, Sindh topped the new infection cases as well as daily fatalities of the virus with 1,402 people tested positive for the virus and nine deaths respectively, according to the NCOC data.

With the Covid-19 positivity rate crossing 20 per cent in the province during the last 24 hours, the Sindh Health Department was mulling over a 14-day "special vaccination programme" in several cities of the province, reported Geo.

According to NCOC data, at least 100 million people have been partially inoculated against the Covid-19, while the number of people who have fully vaccinated has crossed 75 million mark.

In the last week, the Sindh government decided to launch a door-to-door campaign to vaccinate women, who were lagging behind men in rates of coronavirus inoculation as the country had entered a fifth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Moreover, the provincial government has made coronavirus vaccination mandatory for students aged 12 and above.

Addressing a press conference post cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain dismissed reports of schools' closure and another lockdown in the country.
