ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday restored the Senate membership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ishaq Dar, AajNews reported.

The ECP issued a notification restoring his Senate membership after the Supreme Court's orders asking the election body to restore it.

In 2018 the ECP had suspended Dar's notification issued after his victory in Senate elections.

The former finance minister was elected senator from Punjab on a technocrat seat but the apex court on May 8, 2018 had suspended his Senate seat.

They did so after Dar failed to appear before the court, despite repeated summons, for a case investigating his assets beyonds means.

Social media was abuzz with the news of his Senate membership's restoration.

One user on Twitter was incredulous in disbelief.

The anger at the ECP for its decision was visible.
