Four suspects held in connection with PML-N lawmaker's attempted murder

Lahore police on Monday arrested at least four suspects – including one prime suspect – in connection with a gun attack on PML-N lawmaker Bilal Yasin last week, Aaj News reported.

MPA Yasin was injured on Friday when unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire at him in Lahore’s Salamat Mohalla on Mohni Road.

Lahore police operations wing spokesperson, in a statement, had said that the lawmaker was taken to Mayo Hospital following the attack. According to media reports, Yasin was visiting PML-N worker Mian Ikram Kami’s house to attend a meeting of party workers.

Geo-fencing helped in tracing the suspects, police said, adding that interrogation was under way into the shooting. The investigation was conducted by the Lahore Crime Investigation Agency and police declared it a “major development” into the probe.

Sources in police on Sunday said that a pistol had been recovered near the site of the shooting incident, which was undergoing forensic analysis. They added that the 9mm pistol recovered from the site had no registration number.

Poice added that attackers could be traced through finger prints on the pistol while police was interrogating arms dealers to nab culprits.

City cops have been looking into the CCTV footage of the incident, showing two men on a motorcycle entering and exiting the street.

Police on Saturday registered a case against unidentified men as part of the investigation into the incident. The FIR of the incident was registered on the MPA’s complaint at the Data Darbar police station under Sections 34 (common intention) and 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

In the FIR, Yasin had requested for action to be taken against the culprits and said they were around 20 to 25 years of age, adding that he would be able to identify them if they were presented before him.
