Federal minister and National Command and Operation Centre chief Asad Umar on Friday said the country had met its target of vaccinating at least 70 million people by the year end.

In a tweet, the federal minister thanked the NCOC team, federal and provincial administrations and health teams, saying their hard work paid off and the target, which was set earlier and considered impossible, was achieved.

In other tweets, Umar broke down the percentage of those fully vaccinated.

At least 46 per cent of Pakistan's total eligible population has been fully vaccinated against the virus and 63 per cent people have received at least one dose of vaccine, he said.

"Amongst the federating units Islamabad leads with 77% [population which has been] fully vaccinated. Punjab is at 51%, Gilgit Baltistan 46%, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 45%, Balochistan 42%, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 41% and Sindh 37%," read the tweet.

He further said the federal government had procured vaccines worth nearly Rs250 billion to make the mass vaccination drive possible. "..[The government] has provided free vaccines to all citizens regardless of the province they live in," the federal minister tweeted.
