Adviser to the PM on Finance Shaukat Tarin was sworn in as a senator on Friday after he won the by-election for a general seat in the upper house from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani administered the oath of office to Tarin during the session of the upper House earlier today.

The seat fell vacant last month after PTI's Ayub Afridi resigned from the Senate to make way for Tarin ahead of the mini-budget which the latter is expected to present. As per the rules, only elected representatives can present the budget in parliament. Tarin bagged 87 votes, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Tarin thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan, lawmakers, and the public for believing in him.
